William Henry (father of Lewis Henry above) was born in Hayter, Cornwall, England on August 17 1866. He migrated to Australia on the S S Cloncurry with his parents and two older sisters.

He was a bookkeeper in Queensland where he met and married Marion in December 1896. The family lived in Victoria and New South Wales before settling in Semaphore.

He was a member of the Semaphore Freemasons in the 1920’s

William served as Councillor, Alderman and Mayor of Port Adelaide from 1938 - 1941 and 1942 – 1947, welcoming Governor and Lady Norrie and the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester as well as providing civic receptions for war ships visiting the Port during this time.

He was Justice of the Peace and served twenty years on the Bench at Port Adelaide.

His wife Marion was also a Justice of the Peace and helped when children were involved or traffic offences.

William was a member of Semaphore Freemason’s Lodge, and was interested in sporting activities.

He died August 27 1956 aged 90 years.
